EVERYWHERE Watch App Guide

The EVERYWHERE Watch App puts Check-Ins and SOS on your Garmin watch. With a few button presses you can check in, start a Check-In timer, or raise an SOS without taking your phone out of your pocket.

Setup will take three steps. You pair the watch with your phone, install the watch app from a computer, and then connect the watch in the EVERYWHERE app.

Before you start

Have these four things ready:

  • A supported Garmin watch: Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Solar, or Fenix 8 Pro.
  • The EVERYWHERE mobile app, version 5.3 or later, installed on your phone and signed in to your account.
  • The Garmin Connect app on your phone. It is free from Garmin and carries the connection between your phone and the watch.
  • A PC or Mac and the USB cable that came with your watch. You only need these for the one-time app install.

Keep your phone with you. The watch does not work on its own. It sends Check-Ins and SOS alerts through the EVERYWHERE app on your phone over Bluetooth. If your phone is out of range, or the app is not installed and signed in, the watch cannot reach the Hub.

Supported watches

The watch app is built for each model and size. Use the app file that matches your exact watch, or it will not install correctly.

Watch model Supported sizes
Fenix 8 43mm, 47mm
Fenix 8 Solar 47mm, 51mm
Fenix 8 Pro 47mm, 51mm

How to get the app file. Ask your Customer Success Manager or EVERYWHERE Support for the file. Tell us your watch model and size, since each one has its own file.

Set up your watch and pair it with your phone

A new watch walks you through setup the first time you turn it on. You will do part of this on the watch and part on your phone.

On the watch

Watch pairing steps

  1. Power on. Hold the top-left button until the watch starts up.
  2. Choose your language. Scroll to your language and press the top-right button to select it.
  3. Pair your phone. When the watch asks if you want to pair a phone to turn on connected features, choose the check mark.
  4. Scan the QR code. Point your phone's camera at the code on the watch. This opens the Garmin Connect app.
  5. Confirm the PIN. When Garmin Connect shows a code, check that it matches the code on the watch.

On your phone

Watch pairing steps (phone)

  1. When Garmin Connect opens, tap Add Device.
  2. Tap Find Nearby Accessories so your phone can find the watch.
  3. Your watch appears by name. Tap Set Up.
  4. Check that the code on your phone matches the watch, then tap Confirm.
  5. Tap Allow so the watch can show notifications from your phone.
  6. Tap Next on the Device Connected screen, then Done.

Your watch is now paired with your phone. Next, you will put the EVERYWHERE app on it.

Install the EVERYWHERE Watch App

You do this once, from a PC or Mac. You are copying a single file onto the watch.

  1. Get the app file. Request the file for your watch model and size from your CSM or EVERYWHERE Support.
  2. Plug in the watch. Connect it to your computer with the watch's USB cable.
  3. Open the APPS folder. Open the watch's drive, named GARMIN, and go to the APPS folder.
  4. Delete any old version. If an earlier EVERYWHERE app file is in the folder, delete it first.
  5. Copy the new file. Drag and drop the new app file into the APPS folder.
  6. Safely eject. Eject the watch from your computer, then unplug the cable.

Restart the EVERYWHERE app before Step 3. Fully close the EVERYWHERE mobile app on your phone and open it again. If the app stayed open during the install, it may not see the new watch app.

Getting an update later? New versions come as a new file for your watch model. Repeat these same steps, and delete the old file before you copy in the new one.

Connect your watch in the EVERYWHERE app

This last step links the watch to your EVERYWHERE account so your Check-Ins and SOS alerts reach the Hub. Make sure the watch is powered on and Bluetooth is on for your phone.

phone pairing

  1. Open the EVERYWHERE app and tap the gear icon at the top right of the Messages screen.
  2. Under Display, tap Garmin Watch.
  3. Your paired watch is listed. Tap it to connect. The status changes from Disconnected to Connected.

That's it. Your watch is ready to use.

Check-Ins and SOS from your wrist

Once connected, open the EVERYWHERE app on the watch. Each button has one job, and the label next to it on the screen tells you what it does.

5 Time and connection Shows the current time. A Bluetooth icon appears when the watch is connected to your phone.

Don't see Start Check-In? That control only shows up when Self Check-In is turned on for your account. Without it, you will see hash marks in that spot on the watch face. Ask your Hub admin to turn it on, or see How to Create a Self Check-in.

What your team sees. Every Check-In and SOS from the watch posts to the Hub with your location. Admins see it on the Hub map the same way they would see an alert sent from the mobile app.

Reading the watch face

The color of the ring around the edge tells you where you stand at a glance.

Reading the watch face

Ring color Label What it means
White None No Check-In is running. The watch shows the date and time.
Green Good You are on time.
Amber Check-In Now Your time is almost up. Press the bottom-right button to check in.
Red Late Your Check-In is overdue. The timer shows a negative number, such as -00:05.

When an SOS is active, the minutes on the clock turn orange and SOS Active appears on the face. The ring keeps showing your Check-In status, so you can see both at once.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the watch without my phone?

No. The watch works alongside your phone. At a minimum, you need the EVERYWHERE mobile app installed and signed in on your phone, plus a Bluetooth connection between the phone and the watch. The path looks like this: your watch sends to your phone, and your phone sends to the Hub, where your team sees the alert.

Can the EVERYWHERE watch app use Garmin's satellite SOS?

No. Garmin's satellite SOS on the watch is a separate Garmin feature with its own subscription. It runs on a different satellite network and is outside what EVERYWHERE offers. Here is how the two compare:

Garmin watch satellite SOS EVERYWHERE platform
Network Skylo Iridium
Satellites Geostationary. They stay fixed in one spot in the sky. Low-earth orbit. They move across the sky constantly.
In the field You need a clear angle to the satellite from where you stand. Without it, you have no connection. A satellite passes overhead about every 15 to 20 minutes, so a connection is far more reliable.
Subscription Separate Garmin subscription Part of your EVERYWHERE platform, used with your Garmin inReach device
