Locating a Person in Distress (For Field Users)
If a teammate declares SOS, you’ll be notified through your inReach device or the EVERYWHERE App. This ensures you can see their location, navigate to them if safe to do so, and support them until professional responders arrive.
1. inReach Device Users
-
You’ll receive a message with the teammate’s coordinates via satellite.
-
To navigate to them:
-
Open the message containing the coordinates.
-
Press OK → Navigate → Coordinates.
-
Enter the coordinates to begin routing directly to the Person in Distress (PID).
-
2. EVERYWHERE App Users
-
If you have Wi-Fi or cellular service, you’ll receive a push notification with the PID’s location, which can be viewed directly on the map.
-
If you are paired with an inReach device and only satellite coverage is available:
-
The coordinates will arrive as a message flowing from the inReach into the App (not a push notification).
-
You can then open the message and view the location on the map.
-
You may also copy the coordinates from the message and load them into any navigation app of your choice (e.g., Google Maps, Apple Maps, or offline GPS apps).
-
3. Team Coordination
-
All teammates receive the SOS alert when it’s triggered, so everyone is aware of who is in distress and where they are.
-
If you are nearby and it is safe, you can move toward the PID to assist until professional responders arrive.
-
Your Hub managers and Garmin Response are also monitoring the event, so you are never alone in responding.
✅ Reminder: Your inReach device cannot be powered off during SOS mode. Location updates and messages will continue to flow even if the person in distress cannot reply.
