How to Enable Location Services and Tracking for the EVERYWHERE App
Two separate switches control your location. Your phone's permission settings, and the tracking toggle inside the App. Both need to be set correctly or your team may not be able to find you.
| Switch | Where It Lives | What It Controls |
|---|---|---|
| Location permission | Your phone's Settings app | Whether the App can read your location at all, including in the background and during an SOS |
| Tracking toggle | Inside the EVERYWHERE App, Settings tab | Whether your location is sent over cell and Wi-Fi |
If your phone permission is wrong, the App cannot send your location when your screen is off or when you declare an SOS. This is the most common setup mistake we see, and people usually do not find out until it matters.
One thing worth knowing: if you are paired with an inReach device, satellite tracking keeps running even when the in-app toggle is off. The toggle only controls cell and Wi-Fi. Your phone permission still needs to be correct either way.
Android Setup
Step 1: Set the phone permission
- Open your phone's Settings.
- Go to Apps, then EVERYWHERE, then Permissions.
- Set Location Access to Allow all the time.
"While using the app" and "Deny" both break background location and SOS location. Only "Allow all the time" works.
Step 2: Turn on tracking in the App
- Open the EVERYWHERE App.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Turn Device Tracking on.
iOS Setup
Step 1: Set the phone permission
- Open your iPhone's Settings.
- Scroll down and tap EVERYWHERE.
- Set Location Access to Always.
"While Using" and "Allow Once" both break background location and SOS location. Only "Always" works.
Step 2: Turn on tracking in the App
- Open the EVERYWHERE App.
- Tap the Settings tab in the top right.
- Turn Tracking on.
Check That It Worked
Do not assume the toggle is enough. Confirm it.
- Step outside so you have a clear view of the sky and a good cell signal.
- Wait a few minutes.
- Ask your Hub admin to confirm your device is reporting a current position on the map, with a recent timestamp.
If your admin sees you on the map with a fresh timestamp, both switches are set correctly.

Key Takeaways
-
Android: Set location access to Allow all the time.
-
iOS: Set location access to Always.
-
In-App Toggle: Only controls cell/Wi-Fi tracking, not satellite.
-
If permissions are not set correctly, SOS from the Safeguard App (standalone EVERYWHERE App) may not transmit your location.
