Testing Satellite Signal with Test Service on inReach Devices
The Test Service function on inReach devices verifies that your device can connect to the Iridium® satellite network. Running this test ensures your device is ready before heading into areas without Wi-Fi or cellular coverage.
When to Use Test Service
-
Before leaving for a trip or mission.
-
As part of your pre-work checklist.
-
Anytime you want to confirm that your device has an active satellite connection.
How to Run Test Service
The exact menu path varies slightly by device, but the steps follow the same concept:
-
Go outside with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
-
From the home or clock screen, open the Menu.
-
Navigate to Service Plan (or a similar menu option).
-
Select Test Service (sometimes shown as Test or under Utilities → Test).
-
Confirm by selecting Begin Test.
-
Wait for the device to send and receive a confirmation message.
-
A message such as “Test Successful (✓)” will appear when the check is complete.
