How to Activate Your Transferred inReach Device on the EVERYWHERE Platform

Links your inReach device to your EVERYWHERE account so it can send and receive messages, track your location, and trigger SOS.

Why do this?

  • Completes the activation process on the Iridium satellite network under your EVERYWHERE plan — without this step, the device cannot communicate.
  • Records your first satellite track point, confirming the device is live on the platform.

When to do this?

  • Immediately after completing a factory reset on a transferred device.
  • When setting up a brand-new inReach device for the first time on EVERYWHERE.
  • Any time a device has been deactivated and needs to be re-enrolled to an account.
Before you begin: Make sure your device has been assigned to your EVERYWHERE account and has been factory reset (if it was previously used).
 

You'll also need to be outdoors with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky — activation requires a satellite connection and cannot be completed indoors.

Step-by-Step Activation:

Phase 1 —  Initial Setup
  1. When the device powers on after the reset, use the UP or DOWN arrows to select your preferred language, then press OK to confirm.
  2. Press OK to continue past the welcome screen.
Phase 2 — Activate
  1. Scroll to highlight Activate Now and press OK.
    ⚠️ Important: The device will show prompts to set up or use the Garmin Explore app. Always skip or press OK past these prompts. EVERYWHERE operates independently of Garmin's app — connecting to Garmin Explore is not needed and may interfere with your setup.
  2. Continue pressing OK past any Garmin app prompts until you see "Sending Activation" on the screen. This confirms your activation request is being transmitted via satellite.
Phase 3 —  Connection & Completion
  1. Hold the device outdoors with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky while it connects to satellites. Do not go back inside — the device must maintain satellite line-of-sight to complete activation.

    Satellite tip: Avoid standing under trees, overhangs, or near tall buildings. Open fields, parking lots, and rooftops work best. Depending on signal strength, this step can take several minutes — be patient and keep the device still with the antenna pointed upward.
  2. The device will automatically transition through the activation screens. No button presses are needed during this phase — simply wait while the satellite link is established.
  3. When activation is complete, the device will emit a chirp sound, display a checkmark on screen, and return to the home screen. Your device is now active on EVERYWHERE.
