Using EVERYWHERE with the Garmin Watch
This article covers what you need to know about pairing your watch, how notifications work, and a few behaviors to keep in mind so your team knows what to expect in the field.
Before you start:
- EVERYWHERE Mobile App version 3.9 or higher installed on your phone
- A compatible Garmin watch with the EVERYWHERE Watch App installed
- Initial pairing done through Garmin Connect (the app will prompt you if it is not already installed)
How the mobile app and watch work together
The watch app is an extension of the EVERYWHERE Mobile App on your phone. The two stay in sync over Bluetooth, so your phone needs to meet a few conditions for the watch to work properly.
The mobile app cannot be fully closed. It can run in the background, and your phone can be locked, but the app must remain active. If you close it completely, the watch loses its connection to EVERYWHERE.
For notifications to reach your watch, your phone must also be in a state where it can receive push notifications. That means the mobile app needs to be open, even if it is in the background.
Notifications on the watch
Garmin watch notifications must be synced through your phone's notification settings. If your watch is not receiving EVERYWHERE alerts, check that notification sync is enabled in Garmin Connect.
A few things to know about how notifications behave:
- Notifications stay on screen for about 10 seconds and then go away on their own.
- To dismiss a notification manually, press the bottom-right button on the watch.
- Receiving a notification does not automatically open the watch app. Whether the watch app is closed or you have navigated away from it, you will need to open it manually after a notification comes in.
Check-ins and timers
To start or stop a self check-in from your watch, press and hold the middle button on the left side of the watch.
A note on check-in status: if a check-in message is sent from the mobile app instead of the watch, the sending state shown on the watch may not always match what you see on the phone. This is expected behavior.
Timers will always stay in sync between your phone and watch. The one difference is that the watch does not display seconds, so those are dropped from the timer display.
Error messages
If an error message appears on the watch, it will stay on screen until you dismiss it. Press the bottom-right button on the watch to clear it.
Pairing your watch
The first time you connect a Garmin watch to EVERYWHERE, you pair it through Garmin Connect. When you open the EVERYWHERE Mobile App, it will automatically launch Garmin Connect if your watch has already been paired, or it will prompt you to install the app if it has not.
Make sure you are running mobile app version 3.9 or higher before attempting to pair.
Need help?
If your watch is not receiving notifications or the apps are not staying in sync, start by confirming that notification sync is turned on in Garmin Connect and that the EVERYWHERE Mobile App is running in the background on your phone.
