Waypoints & Pins on the EVERYWHERE Platform
Applies to: inReach Explorer, Explorer+, Mini, SE, SE+, Messenger, Messenger+, Mini 2 & 3, GPSMAP 66i, GPSMAP 67i, Montana 700i, Montana 750i, EVERYWHERE App
Waypoints and pins let your team mark locations across devices, the Hub, and the EVERYWHERE App. How syncing works depends on whether your device is from the DeLorme era or the Garmin era. This article covers how to sync in each direction, what each device generation supports, and answers the most common questions we hear from field teams.
Device generations at a glance
Before diving in, it helps to know which device family you're working with. The sync options are different for each one.
| Generation | Devices |
|---|---|
| DeLorme Era | inReach Explorer, Explorer+, Mini, SE, SE+ |
| Garmin Era | Messenger, Messenger+, Mini 2 & 3, GPSMAP 66i, GPSMAP 67i, Montana 700i, Montana 750i, H1i+ |
Syncing from the Hub to your device
DeLorme Era -- Using inReach Sync
DeLorme-era devices use the inReach Sync app to pull data from the Hub to the device over USB.
- Open the device's General page in the EVERYWHERE Hub.
- Find the red or green circular sync icon in the top-left corner and click it to open the Sync Your Device modal.
- If you haven't installed the inReach Sync App yet, click the DOWNLOAD link in the modal to get it.
- Open the inReach Sync App and log in with your EVERYWHERE Hub username and password.
- Connect the device to your computer using a USB cable.
- The app will transfer contacts, quick messages, and preset messages from the Hub to the device.
Note: The inReach Sync App transfers contacts, quick messages, and preset messages. Waypoints synced to the team will also be available after sync.
Garmin Era -- Using a config file
Garmin-era devices don't use the inReach Sync App. Instead, you download a configuration file from the Hub and copy it to the device manually.
- Open the device's General page in the EVERYWHERE Hub.
- Click the red or green circular sync icon in the top-left corner to open the sync modal.
- Click DOWNLOAD CONFIG FILE and save the file to your computer.
- Connect the device to your computer via USB and copy the config file to the device's internal storage.
- Power on the device and select Apply Updates.
- When prompted, select OK to confirm.
- Check the device to confirm that contacts, quick messages, and preset messages are updated correctly.
Syncing Hub pins to the EVERYWHERE App
Pins you create in the Hub will appear in the EVERYWHERE App and update in real time. Only device users who fall under the folder(s) selected in the "Select team" field will see the shared pins.
App users can find them under Maps > Layers > Pins. Pins shared from the Hub appear under the Shared Pins category.
Important: Pins dropped directly in the EVERYWHERE App cannot sync back to the Hub. This is a one-way flow: Hub to App only.
Getting waypoints from a device to the Hub
DeLorme Era
Waypoints saved on a DeLorme-era device can be synced to the Hub by connecting the device via USB and running inReach Sync. They will be added to the device's team in the Hub. You will need to create a display group in the Hub to view those synced pins.
Garmin Era
Garmin-era devices don't support inReach Sync, but you can export waypoints as a GPX file and upload them to the Hub manually.
- On the device, go to Saved > Waypoints > Export to GPX.
- Connect the device to a PC via USB.
- Locate the file at Garmin > GPX > waypoints.gpx on the device's storage.
- In the Hub, go to the Tracking page and navigate to Groups > desktop icon tab > 3 vertical dots (Group Options) > Import pins > .gpx.
- Upload the waypoints.gpx file.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between waypoint support on DeLorme-era and Garmin-era devices?
DeLorme-era devices sync waypoints to and from the Hub via USB using inReach Sync. Garmin-era devices don't support inReach Sync, but you can export waypoints as a GPX file and import them to the Hub manually. Pins created in the Hub will display in the EVERYWHERE App and update in real time for both device types.
How do I get pins from the Hub to devices in the field?
For any device that can't receive waypoints via USB sync, create the pin in the Hub and assign it to the appropriate team folder. It will appear in the EVERYWHERE App under Shared Pins for users in that folder.
Do pins dropped in the App flow to the paired device as waypoints?
No. Pins created in the EVERYWHERE App don't transfer to any paired device as waypoints, regardless of device generation.
Do waypoints dropped on the device flow to the App as pins?
- DeLorme Era: Waypoints synced to the Hub via inReach Sync will appear in the App. Waypoints cannot move directly from the device to the App.
- Garmin Era: No. There is no direct way to move Garmin-era device waypoints to the App.
Can I get waypoints from a device to the Hub?
- DeLorme Era: Yes, using USB Sync. You will need to create a display group in the Hub to view the synced pins.
- Garmin Era: Yes, by exporting a GPX file from the device and importing it to the Hub manually. See the steps above.

Troubleshooting
DeLorme Era -- Waypoints fail to sync
- Check your USB connection and make sure the device is recognized by your computer.
- Verify that your inReach Sync App login credentials match your EVERYWHERE Hub username and password.
- Restart the inReach Sync App and reconnect the device, then try again.
Garmin Era -- Config file fails to apply
- Make sure the file copied completely to the device before disconnecting the USB cable.
- Verify that the device is running the latest firmware. Outdated firmware can cause config file errors.
- Try copying the file again and re-running Apply Updates.
